Follow these security tips when using your mobile to buy products and services online.

Always check the website URL includes HTTPS at the start .

HTTPS means the website is secure and the communication is encrypted. Depending on your browser, you might see a padlock in the address bar next to the website address as well.

Make sure the website is genuine

Look out for warning signs that the website might not be the real deal, like spelling and grammatical errors. If you’re worried, search for the company name online and read some independent reviews. 

Log out of sites if you’ve saved your payment details

Use caution when storing card details on websites. If you’ve saved your payment details within your account, make sure you log out before closing the browser. Simply closing it won’t log you out. This means that if someone else uses your mobile they could use your payment details again by visiting the same website.

You can make safe and secure payments and transfers between your own accounts, to other people or businesses with our mobile app.

Our app is protected with high levels of security, but there are extra measures you can take to ensure you protect yourself from fraudsters.

Use your mobile provider's network when out and about

A mobile data network connection (3G or 4G) is more secure than public or shared Wi-Fi. When you have signal, make your payments over your mobile network.

Use a secure Wi-Fi network

Avoid making payments on public Wi-Fi where possible. At home, make sure you set up your own Wi-Fi router with a secure password instead of an open network. There are different types of Wi-Fi encryption, with WPA2 being the strongest. Look at the instruction manual for your router for information on how to set up your Wi-Fi security.

 

Create a secure passcode or use biometrics

Create a strong passcode for your banking app, make it different from other passwords you have.  Or for an extra layer of security use fingerprint log in or facial recognition  if you have the iPhone X

 

Touch ID is available on selected Apple devices. Android Fingerprint is available on selected Android devices. Face ID is available on IPhone X

Be aware of your surroundings

Do not log into your mobile app when someone could be looking over your shoulder or easily snatch your phone. Apart from seeing how much money you have in your account, they could also watch you type in your passcode. Make sure to never read bank details out loud when you are in a public place.

Our Mobile Banking app is protected by many layers of security starting from our secure registration process which requires you to validate your details to keep fraudsters out.

When you make a payment or a transfer on your Mobile Banking app, you need to complete a second authentication process. The Bank will send you an activation code via a text message to the mobile number we hold for you. You then need to re-enter the code into the app to complete activation. You must never share this activation code with anyone else.

Our Mobile Banking app gives you access to your bank account but doesn’t store any transactional details on your phone. This means fraudsters can’t access any transactional information from your phone’s memory.

Our app automatically logs you out when you close it and will time out if you’re not interacting with it or when your phone is locked.

Our App’s communication between the Bank and your phone is fully encrypted and protected. Encryption is where information is scrambled so it becomes unrecognisable. This means your information can’t be read by anyone else, so nobody can steal it.
