Setting up a payee

In a nutshell

There are many ways you can set up a new payee. You can do this through Mobile, Online Banking, over the phone or in a branch.

What you'll need

 

The mobile app

The name, account number and branch sort code of the person you're paying

Your step-by-step guide:

  1. 01

    Open your NatWest app, tap on the account you want to make a payment from, select 'Payments' and then 'Make a payment'.

  2. 02

    Tap ‘Select payee’ on Apple devices or ‘Choose payee’ on Android devices and then tap 'Pay someone new' and put in the name and account details of the person you want to pay.

  3. 03

    Choose the amount you wish to send, add a reference for the payment and the choose the date you want to send the money on, now or in the future.

    Tap on ‘Make payment’ for Apple devices and ‘Next’ on Android devices.

    For added security you may be asked to authorise this payment. If this happens you will see the ‘Authentication required’ screen. Just tap ‘Next’.

    Then re-enter your mobile app’s log in details, to re-confirm it’s you.

    Check the details on screen are correct then tap ‘Make payment’ on Apple devices and ‘Next’ on Android devices, then tap ‘Make payment’ again.

  6. 06

    That’s your payment complete! You can save or send a PDF copy of the payment once it's sent, if you want to keep a record of it.

Access to Online Banking

Your card reader

Your step-by-step guide:

    Log into your Online Banking

  2. 02

    Select 'Payments and transfers' from the left-hand menu

  3. 03

    Under the 'Make a payment or transfer' heading select 'Manage payees'

  4. 04

    Click on the 'Add Payee' button

  5. 05

    Type in the name of the person or company (Up to 18 characters. Acceptable special characters are '/', '&' and '-')

  6. 06

    Type in their bank account number and sort code (if you're paying a company, the information might auto populate when you type in the company name)

  7. 07

    Type in a reference - this should be something to help identify the payee recognise who the payment is from (Up to 18 characters. Acceptable special characters are '/', '&' and '-'.) then click 'next'

  8. 08

    Check the details you've entered and authorise with your card reader

  9. 09

    Once authorised, your new payee will be added

Your Online/telephone Banking login details

Your step-by-step guide:

  1. 01

    Call us on 03457 888 444 (International +44 8705 888 444), you will hear an automated menu where you can make a selection based on what you want to do

  2. 02

    To make a payment press 1

  3. 03

    Enter your customer number

  4. 04

    You will be asked to enter part of your telephone/Online Banking PIN number

  5. 05

    Press option 2

  6. 06

    Follow the prompts to pay a bill or individual

  7. 07

    Make sure you have ready the name, account number and branch sort code of the person you're paying

If you need a helping hand to make a new payment you can come into a branch and one of the team will help you.

Make sure you bring your debit card as we’ll use that and a PIN verification at the counter to confirm it's you. Then we'll be able to help you set up and make a new payment.
