How To Make Your
Mobile Secure

Concerned about mobile security?

We put your safety and security first,
both online and on mobile.
But why not make your mobile device
even more secure with these 6 tips below.

How to make your mobile secure

Keep your mobile software and apps updated

Don’t ignore those reminders to update your phone. New software updates from Apple and Android are often released to improve the security of your device. Keeping these updated will mean your phone has the latest defences against any malicious attempts.

We are always improving our mobile banking app with new features and the latest security software, so make sure you click the update button when you get an alert. Remember to only download the app or update from official app stores.

Keep your phone locked

It might be quicker to access your phone without a passcode, but it also makes it easier for others to access your phone without your permission. Keep it protected with a passcode or biometric log in.

Make your codes secure and use biometrics if you can

Never write down any passcodes, save them in your phone or share them with anyone. We’ll never ask you for your full passcode or your app activation code unless you’re enrolling or logging into the app itself. Make your passcodes as strong as possible and avoid using something that could be easy for fraudsters to guess, like your date of birth

Logging in with Fingerprint ID is even more secure than a passcode. You can use Fingerprint log in on our app and to make payments using Apple Pay and Android Pay. Newer phones also have other biometric options such as Face ID on the iPhone X.  You can now log in to our mobile app with iPhone’s Face ID. You can often find out what security measures are available on your model in the settings menu.

Be scam-savvy

You can keep up-to-date with the latest online and offline scams in the news section of our security centre. There’s information to help protect yourself from scams that target mobile phone users too, like phishing, vishing and smishing.

Find and wipe your mobile remotely

Download Find My iPhone (iOS) or Find My Device (Android) for peace of mind if you lose your mobile phone . These apps can locate and clear your phone from wherever you are,  - keeping your data safe and secure. We never store app data in any other area of your phone, so if you do lose your phone, your NatWest mobile banking app will remain secure.

Don’t tamper with the security of your device

Jailbreaking or Rooting is when you remove manufacturing restrictions, often meaning you can download unofficial apps. To make sure you phone stays secure, stick with your phone’s original settings and only download official apps.
