1 month before you go

If you have a current account, check what advantages come with your account. Do you need to get travel insurance or mobile phone insurance or are you already covered? If so, upgrade or apply for one which does, view our range of accounts. You need to be aged 18 or over, and UK resident to apply and remember that some of our current accounts have a monthly fee associated with them. Also, remember to let us know before you go so that you can use your cards when you're away.

One advantage of using a credit card (but not a debit card) abroad is that purchases are covered by the Consumer Credit Act. This means if something you buy (of value from £100 to £30,000) is faulty or "not as described", you can recover the cost from the card provider or the retailer. Remember, there can be a charge for using your card so our handy guide can keep you in the know.

If you don't have a NatWest credit card, take a look at our range to see what suits you best (to apply you need to be UK Resident, aged over 18 and earn at least £10,000).

2 weeks before you go

Order your travel money so that you have plenty of cash with you when you're there.  Use the Holiday Spend calculator to work out how much you'll need - from Big Macs to a bottle of water, this can help give you pointers.

10 days before you go

If you are going to be making cash withdrawals and using your cards abroad it is worth telling us where you are going. Unexpected foreign spending often triggers a fraud alert and can lead to your cards being frozen. One quick action in your online banking before you go could help you avoid the headache!

While travelling is thoroughly enjoyable, it is also expensive! An arranged overdraft could give you the peace of mind and reassurance that you have minimised any fees and interest from going overdrawn to the agreed limit set with us. Arranged overdrafts are only available to eligible customers with a NatWest current account and are aged 18 or over.

With our Overdraft Calculator you can find out what it could cost to use an Arranged Overdraft for a certain number of days. You can even work out what you might be charged if you accidentally go over your agreed limit into an Unarranged Overdraft. (All costs shown by our calculator are for illustration purposes only. Your actual costs may vary).

The day before you go
