How to get in touch with us

Read our bereavement guide

There are a number of ways that you can notify us about a bereavement:

Call us to make an appointment

We recommend in the first instance you call our dedicated team on 0800 161 5903, or Minicom 0800 404 6161 (Monday to  Friday 8am-6pm, Saturday 9am-1pm) who will arrange an appointment at a branch most convenient to you.

A member of staff will talk you through the process and answer any questions you have.  You can find your nearest branch through our branch locator.

Where there is a will that appoints NatWest as executor, please call our third party provider who acts on our behalf – Hugh James Solicitors, on 02920 391 058 (Minicom 0800 404 6161)

Write to us

If you prefer, you can contact us by post. We’ll need the following documents and information so that we can help you:

  • Full name of the deceased customer
  • NatWest sort code and account number of the deceased (we only need one account number, even if there are multiple accounts)
  • Your full name, address and contact telephone number
  • Original Death Certificate* or Coroner’s Interim Certificate (England & Wales only) or Abbreviated Extract (Scotland only)
  • A photocopy of the will, if you know the deceased has left one. However, it’s not necessary to send this if the deceased was a joint account(s) holder, unless NatWest is the executor
  • The name and address of the deceased’s next of kin (if no-one has been appointed in the will as executor)

* If you are unable to obtain a Death Certificate or only have a copy of the Death Certificate, please contact our Bereavement Service Team so that we can advise how to proceed.

Please send the information and documents by recorded post to:

All original documents will be returned to you and we’ll write to you to confirm the next steps in relation to the deceased’s NatWest accounts and banking arrangements.
